Course Purpose

This course provides essential knowledge and legal understanding required for the safe transport of dangerous goods by road. It prepares drivers and loaders to meet compliance, safety, and documentation requirements.

Course Entry Requirements

  • Hold a minimum Class 1 learner licence to gain the D Endorsement

Special Note: This course may be completed as a competency course where a non-licencing competency certificate is issued.

Theory Learning Outcomes

  • Identify the scope of the Dangerous Goods Rules
  • Driver and loader responsibilities
  • Documentation requirements
  • Requirements for DGLQ, consumer commodities, small and excepted packages
  • Segregation requirements for dangerous goods
  • Placarding requirements for vehicles and freight containers
  • Driver actions during incidents or emergencies

Note: There are no practical learning outcomes for this course.

Demonstrate and apply knowledge of law and practice for the transport of Dangerous Goods by road.

Course Completion

D Endorsement

After successful completion, you will receive a NZTA driver licencing endorsement certificate. This must be presented to an NZTA driver licence agency (AA or VTNZ) within 60 days. Failure to do so will require re-completion of the course.

Unit Standard 16718 will be credited to your NZQA record within 90 days.

Competency Certificate

Participants completing the course for competency purposes will receive a Prodrive Dangerous Goods competency certificate (non-licencing).

If a D Endorsement is required later, the course must be completed again at full cost.

F Endorsement & OSH – Combo

This is a combined course covering both the Forklift Operator Certificate and Forklift (F) Endorsement requirements.

The course is delivered over a full day, with approximately 4–5 hours of theory training, followed by practical forklift training and assessment.

Forklift Operator Certificate (OSH) Course

The purpose of this course is to provide learners with the knowledge and practical skills needed to operate a forklift safely in the workplace.

  • Must be at least 15 years of age
  • Identify legislation and regulations relevant to forklift operation.
  • Learn Safe Operating Practices.
  • Identify forklift Parts and attachments (components.
  • Understand forklift stability and capacity basics.
  • Identify hazards in the workplace and describe hazard management controls.
  • Perform forklift maintenance and checks.
  • Demonstrate the ability to operate a forklift safely, including stacking and de-stacking.
  • Conduct a pre-operational inspection and start-up procedure of a forklift
  • Demonstrate practical forklift skills
  • Park and shutdown a forklift

Unit Standard 10851 (Level 3, Credits 7) - Operate a powered industrial lift truck (forklifts)

In-Classroom Theory & Practical Assessment.

After successfully completing both the theory and practical components of the course, Learners will be issued a Forklift Operator Certificate. The certificate is valid for three years, after which refresher training and reassessment are required to maintain competency.

  • Learners who achieve a 100% assessment result will be awarded Unit Standard 10851, which will be credited to their NZQA Record of Achievement.
  • Learners who achieve a result between 80% and 99% will be issued a Forklift Operator Certificate.
